Hermie wants go cage!

We brought a hermit crab back from the beach for Matt. His name is Hermie. Actually, it's Hermie 2, but that's another story. Hermie lives in a round cage about 8 inches in diameter. The wire frame of the cage has holes about the size of a pencil eraser, and Hermie is pretty good at climbing up the walls. The lid has a clip to keep it closed.

Abby was finishing up lunch today when I decided to let Hermie wander around on the kitchen counter for a while. Abby ran the whole gamut of emotions. She was at times delighted that he was out, terrified that he might fall off the edge, and frightened that he would somehow get from the counter to the table and bite her. "Hermie get me! No Hermie!" "Hermie like to walk!" "Hermie don't want fall off." But this story really isn't about Abby.

After about 10 minutes of this, Hermie made a beeline for his cage. "Hermie wants go cage!" He started climbing up the outside, very carefully climbed over the lip of the cage (OK, I gave him a little support just in case), then climbed down the inside of the cage. When he got to the bottom, he crawled to an empty area and pulled himself back into his shell.

We need some advances in Quantum Physics, and fast!

Today, I sat in on a bunch of meetings concerning a new building. Each meeting included the building architects and one of the different offices that are planning on moving into the new building. As each office (completely unaware of any conversations we were having with the other offices) gave us their space, power, phone, network, etc. requirements, we heard this:

Manager from office #1: "We have a lot of visitors from other companies we do business with. It would be unfair to them to make them go upstairs, and we also don't want the other building tenants to see who we're meeting with on any given day. It is absolutely critical that our space is on the first floor of the building."

Manager from office #2: "We have a test lab with a lot of large, heavy equipment. It's too big for regular elevators, and there is no freight elevator. It also might weigh too much for the upper floors. It is absolutely critical that our space is on the first floor of the building."

Manager from office #3: "We get several deliveries a week of PCs, servers, etc., that we configure and then ship out to other offices in other buildings. We would be putting too much stress on the elevators, as well as overworking our guys who have to transport all this stuff upstairs. It is absolutely critical that our space is on the first floor of the building."

Somebody's not going to be too happy. I'm just glad it's not my decision.
